I swallowed, wiping the sweat off my upper lip.
"Johhnycake?" I said in a hoarse voice. "Johnny?" Johnny shifted around a bit, then opened his eyes. "Hey." He mumbled.
"We won," I panted, hoping the news could fix him, even though I knew it wouldn't. "We beat the Socs. We stomped them – chased the outa our territory." Johnny didn't even try to force a smile.
"Useless …fighting's no good…" The kid was as pale as New York snow. I licked my lips, trying not to seem nervous.
"They're still writing editorials about you in the paper. For being a hero and all." I tried to control my talking, but I couldn't help it; this shouldn't have happened to Johnny. He'd been through too much. "Yeah they're callin' you a hero now and heroizin' all the greasers. We're all proud of you, buddy." Johnny's eyes lit up, happy to know Dally of all people was proud of him. "Dumb kid," Dally thought, "I've always been proud of you." I backed up when I heard Johnny whisper Ponyboy's name. These weren't my words to hear.
Seconds later Johnny was dead. Gone. Vanished. Finished. Dead. I swallowed and pushed back Johnny's hair. "Never could keep that hair back… That's what you get for trying to help people you little punk, that's what you get..." I whirled around and slammed against the wall, wishing that the pain could take my mind off of what just happened, but it was impossible. My face twisted in agony as sweat dripped down it, but I felt nothing.
"Damnit Johnny…" I begged, slamming one fist against the wall, wishing something so simple could bring him back. "Oh, damnit, Johnny, please don't die..."
"Why Johnny?" I thought. "Of all the people who could die, why Johnny? Johnny whose dad beats him and his mom doesn't even care a lick. Johnny who got jumped by the Socs so bad that he's afraid of his own shadow. Johnny with the big dark eyes and the hair he couldn't keep out of his face. Why him?"

Panting, I ran inside the phone booth. It wouldn't take long to call Darry and tell him what I'd just done.
"Hello?" He answered.
"Hey Darry, it's Dally. I just robbed a grocery store and the fuzz are after me. Be at the lot in a minute, I need you to hide me." Hearing sirens in the distance, I slammed the phone back into its places and dashed down towards the lot, my heater bouncing against my leg through my jacket pocket. "Someone has to be with Johnny, even if it means dying." I thought as I raced down the streets.

Ponyboy and Johnny were inside the burning church, risking their lives for some dang kids they didn't even know.
"For Pete's sake," I screamed. "Get outa there! That roof's gonna cave in any minute. Forget those blasted kids!" They ignored me anyways though, and kept dropping kids out of the window. I could hear them coughing and hacking from all of the smoke, and boy Pony sure did look like he was burning up in my jacket. Pieces of the roof were already crashing down, and I was truly worried. Then the entire roof came crashing down and Pony flew out of the window, while Johnny screamed,
"Get out!"
Timber crashed down and the fire raged inside of the old abandoned church where they had been safe from the fuzz, but not the elements. A scream echoed out from the building, sounding almost inhuman, and I realized it was Johnny. "Oh lord, I hope he's okay."  Pony turned to go back, but he would've died if he'd gone in there. I swore at the dumb kid and whacked him across the back as hard as I could, hoping I didn't kill him when he fell over onto the ground, passed out.

White. The color was all over the wall, floors, and furniture. "I must be in the hospital." I thought. My arm hurt a bit, but it was nothing compared to what I'd done before. It took me a minute to remember how my arm got like this and why I was here, but when I remembered, I wished I hadn't.
Johnny had looked so pale under that huge piece of timber that laid across his back like a burning, deadly blanket. He had passed out, from exhaustion, pain, or the smoke; I couldn't tell. It didn't take much to lift the timber, but the smoke didn't help. It burned my eyes and made it hard to breathe, hard to support Johnny and myself back over to the window to safety. Johnny's back was bloody and didn't look so great. His breathing was shallow and I was worried that we wouldn't make it. I screamed as a burning piece of wood seared into my arm after falling from the roof, but pushed on. When I finally got to the window there were people on the other side who pulled me and Johnny out. There was an ambulance or two there, but I only had eyes for Johnny. I watched as they loaded his limp body into the ambulance, and hurried over to see how he was. I didn't get very far when my vision started to fade and got clouded with spots, and before I knew it I was falling to the ground; out cold

"Stretchers are very uncomfortable," I thought. "And these lights are too dang bright." My eyes stayed screwed shut as I was brought down the hallway through the sterile white hospital. I was brought  through a door into some sort of waiting room, and when I heard Ponyboy's worried voice, I tried to force a smile.
"I swear to god if you ever do something stupid like that again, I'll beat the living tar out of you." I said. He laughed for a brief second, but I could see the smile melt right off his face when he looked at Johnny. I didn't get to see him for long though, because the doctors kept on going without stopping to even let me tell Pony not to worry.

As I slipped out of the hospital bed, I grabbed Two-bit's switchblade from under my pillow and made sure I had everything I needed. "Hopefully, not too many people will be in the hallway tonight. I don't need any extra complications." I thought, referring to my arm. Despite my hopes, there was still a single nurse walking throughout the halls. Silently, I snuck up beside her and flipped open the blade.
"Excuse me, but I think I'll be leaving now." The nurse's eyes widened when she saw the blade, but she still managed to stammer out an answer.
"Y-You can't leave s-sir. It's against hospital policy for me to let go." Dally frowned. She was supposed to give in to him on the first try. He wasn't really in the mood to think very hard about anything, considering his anticipation for the rumble and the pain in his arm. Darry shoved her into the wall and held the switchblade inches from her throat.
"I don't usually follow the rules, baby." The nurse's eyes got bigger, if that was even possible. She muttered something under her breath that sounded like, "typical greaser" and hurried down the hall towards another room.
"Sure scared her huh?" I muttered as I walked towards where I thought the exit would be. I didn't care though, because I had a rumble to get to. An everyone knows a rumble isn't a rumble without Dallas Winston.
I could not, for the life of me, remember how to indent this. So yeah, if you read this and get annoyed by the lack indentations, I truly am sorry.

This was something I did for my ILA (Integrated Language Arts) class and thought it was cool, so I'm putting it up here. This is from Dally's point of view...

I do not own any of these characters. They are all from The Outsiders by S.E. Hinton.
